Lighting Technician

Emursive Productions, the producing company behind the McKittrick Hotel, home of Sleep No More, Gallow Green, Manderley Bar, and The Club Car is seeking a Lighting Technician (day coverage / show swing) to work on Life & Trust, a new experience located at Conwell Tower in the Financial District. We seek applicants who are excited to build a department from the ground up, creating systems and processes collaboratively as a small team.

The Lighting Technician, reporting to the Lighting Supervisor, maintains all lighting and atmospheric elements within the experience, ensuring they are safe, properly functioning, and serving the production as-designed. They will play an integral role in maintaining high aesthetic standards throughout the experience, and developing new systems for day-to-day maintenance, function and long-term infrastructure improvements. They are responsible for preserving the quality of the experience for guests at each performance, providing consistent, streamlined, and efficient run-of-shows, while remaining in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. 

 

Work Calls (day coverage)

  • Tend to daily lighting notes for all areas within the venue
  • Complete daily checks and maintenance of lighting systems and equipment
  • Upkeep and maintain all show hazers 
  • Provide clear notes / project updates in a timely manner to all applicable parties
  • Maintain, organize, and take inventory of all lighting department gear
  • Inventory lamp, gel, and expendable supply stocks weekly
  • Execute all lighting requests throughout the building
  • Create and update department paperwork
  • Rig check all equipment hung in the air on a regular basis
  • Regularly clean gear and cable
  • Report any unsafe conditions or behavior to Production Management

 

Performance Track (show swing):

  • Function as swing to cover the show lighting track during performances as needed
  • Pre-show / post show duties as outlined in show documentation, including:
    • Daily startup and shutdown of lighting systems
    • Daily dimmer, channel, and moving light checks
  • Work with Stage Management and Lighting Supervisor to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot and solve problems both prior to the start of performances and during performances
  • Completion of technical reports following each show shift as assigned by the Lighting Supervisor 
  • Report any unsafe conditions or behavior to Production Management

*Other duties as assigned by the Lighting Supervisor

*Position requires weekend and evening shifts, including operation of any production as needed and arranged with the Lighting Supervisor.

Environmental Factors:

*Can complete responsibilities and duties under the following conditions when needed*

  • Spaces that contain dust & uneven flooring
  • Numerous trips up and down multiple flights of stairs
  • Lighting and atmospheric effects, including but not limited to strobing lights and continuous large quantities of haze 
  • Working in spaces with minimal to no lighting
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs unaided

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of professional theatrical lighting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theatre / related field or equivalent experience
  • Ability to read stage lighting plots, wiring diagrams, and other technical drawings
  • Well-versed in soldering and LED tape repairs / maintenance
  • Proficient use of Vectorworks, Lightwright, and Google Suite 
  • Previous hands-on experience in theatrical lighting systems / networking, electrical safety and wiring, and technical troubleshooting
  • Experience maintaining theatrical, practical, LED, and moving head lighting fixtures, as well as dimming systems, haze units, and control equipment
  • Demonstrate combination of strong collaboration, communication, and technical skills
  • Demonstrate high quality standards for a safe and supportive work environment
  • Comfortable working under pressure, time constraints, and dim lighting while maintaining a calm demeanor and clear communication

 

Rate:

$30/hr (expected 40 hrs/wk), full-time, eligible for full benefits package
